ARTISAN Collection: The Annie Dress

Here at Monsoon supporting age-old hand-craft techniques is an important part of our heritage. The ARTISAN collection is a showcase of beautiful traditional skills combined with modern design. Here we meet Sarita, one of the talented artisans who hand embellished the limited–edition Annie dress.

The Annie Dress

Enshrouded in sparkling flowers, our limited-edition Annie sequin maxi dress is one of just 370 made. Bringing drama to your special occasion, this floor-length style features a frilled neckline with velvet ties and a decadent velvet neckline.

Meet the Artisan

Sarita first learnt the skill of hand embellishment from her husband, Raju, 15 years ago. Now a very talented artisan she works from home to support the family income.

Sarita and Raju have four children – three daughters and one son.  The eldest, Varsha and Megha are very close. Varsha currently studies at high school, Sarita would like her to work for the government when she is older. The younger two children, Neha and Manish, the most entertaining in the family, are always teasing each other, especially about homework.

The ARTISAN Collection

Working with craftspeople in faraway places is a complex process with lots of challenges. But it’s always been an important part of who we are and what we do. Our continued commitment to using hand-craft helps sustain skills and livelihoods, as well as adding something special and unique to our collections.

A member of our Monsoon team personally visits our artisans, to watch our beautiful product come to life and get to know the people behind the intricate craftsmanship. We’ve worked closely with our ARTISAN suppliers to introduce worker handbooks where artisans can track the number of pieces they’ve worked on and, in turn, keep a record of their wages. This helps create transparency in the supply chain, letting us know who is making our clothes, and allowing us to make sure that the artisans have been fully paid for their beautiful work.
